What do I need to connect my solar panels and battery to the Hive app?
Effective Home will fit a Hive Bridge – and also a Hive Hub if you don’t already have one. These are provided at no extra cost as part of your installation when you buy compatible solar equipment. But don’t worry the installation team will ensure that you are setup on the app on the day of installation.
Does Hive install my solar equipment?
No, Effective Home we’ll take care of your purchase and installation.
How do I make money by selling my surplus energy back to the grid?
If you sign up to a Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) tariff you can sell your surplus energy back to the grid. e.g The British Gas Export and Earn Plus SEG tariff will pay you 15.1p per kWh you export.
How do I set up the Hive app?
Download the Hive app accessed via the Apple Store (IPhone) or Google Play Store (Android) and head to the main homepage, switch on the solar product feature on the dashboard and follow the instructions so you can see what you generate and export.
How do I sign up to the Hive Solar Saver energy offer?
Go to the Hive website, scroll down to the ’Hive Solar Saver’ section and click ‘find out more’ to sign up to 25% off your electricity for 12 months.

1. Based on a medium demand (2,700 kWh) property in London, with south-facing 10 panel 4kW arrays and a battery providing 35% of the home’s electricity needs. Excess energy is sold back to the grid at 15.1p per kWh using the British Gas ‘Export & Earn Plus’ SEG tariff. Saving includes ‘Hive Solar Saver’ discount of 25% on electricity unit rate in first year and savings will vary after that. Typical bill calculated using national average Jan- March 25 price cap rates. Actual savings will depend on location, installation, aspect and electricity use.
2. Hive Solar Saver offer is available to customers who accept a quote for a Hive solar and/or battery installation from the 22nd May 2024. The offer is subject to availability and can be removed at any time. We will give at least one months’ advance notice of the offer ending on our website. To be eligible for the offer, installation must be completed within three months of the customer’s acceptance of the quote and customers must sign-up for Hive Solar Saver within two weeks of receiving their invitation email. 25% discount applies for 12 months. Discount excludes standing charge. For time of use tariffs, discount applies to peak rate consumption only.
