Get Central Heating Installed For Free & Transform How You Heat Your Home
What are the benefits of a free heating system?
See if you qualify for a free first time heating grant
Will this be the first time that a wet central heating system is installed in your property? If it is, then you may be eligible for grant support.
Whether you own your own home or you’re renting, you could qualify for a grant to get it installed for free and transform how you heat your home and access hot water.
The main grant you could qualify for is typically ECO4.
Don't miss out on a free heating grant
Moving from electric or inefficient heating sources to a much more efficient heating system can help reduce your carbon footprint and contribute towards the Government’s goal of net zero carbon emissions in the UK by 2050.
If you don’t have a heating system or you have a system without a boiler and radiators, you will most likely be eligible for a grant.
Funding is available under the ECO4 Scheme, and covers the cost of supplying and installing a new boiler and radiators, plus the pipework and heating controls.
It only takes 2 minutes to check your eligibility
Which current heating types could mean I qualify for support?
- Electric room heaters
- Gas room heaters
- Solid fossil fuel with back boiler
- Electric underfloor ceiling heating (not part of an electric boiler)
- Bottled LPG room heating
- Solid fossil fuel room heaters
- Wood / Biomass room heating
- Oil room heaters
- No heating in place
If you have any of the above heating systems at home, then you’ll likely qualify for support for first-time central heating under the ECO4 scheme.
How it works
If your home doesn’t already have a central heating system, or you have a system without a boiler and radiators, we can design and install one that suits your home from scratch.
We’ll help you apply for funding, install your boiler and radiators, and show you how to make the most of it.
A properly insulated home keeps the cost of your central heating down. You could qualify for free* loft insulation & cavity wall insulation, too with grant support. Effective Home can help you with this too.
The main insulation grants you’ll be concerned with are the Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) and ECO4. We can help guide you through the application process.

First Time Central Heating FAQs
How long does it take to install central heating?
This will vary depending on the size of your home and your flooring. Once we have surveyed your property, we can advise how long it will take.
Can I get a free central heating system?
If you are a homeowner or a private renter (with permission from the landlord) who receives qualifying means-tested benefits, you could be entitled to a first time central heating grant through the Energy Company Obligation (ECO), an initiative that aims to help lower the carbon footprint of homes and heating bills in the UK by offering support to the lowest income households with poor EPC ratings.
Under the scheme, grants are available to help people pay for energy efficiency improvements, such as central heating systems, if your home hasn’t had one before – along with upgrades like home insulation. Check if you qualify with Effective Home today!
If renting, what else would I need to qualify?
If you live in social housing, grants are only available on properties with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D, E, F or G. If you’re a private tenant then you’ll qualify for support if you have an EPC rating of E, F, or G. You’ll also need the landlord’s permission to begin the first time central heating and insulation grant application process.
