What can Effective Home insulation do for me?
We offer a range of home insulation measures that can transform your home and cut your energy bills dramatically, but there are plenty of other reasons for upgrading your insulation (or installing it for the first time!).
Loft insulation can stop heat from escaping through your roof – one of the most common places in the UK for homes to lose the majority of their heat. By insulating your loft, you create an effective barrier that increases the heat retention and energy efficiency.
Cavity wall insulation is an excellent way to make your home more comfortable. By filling the gap between your inner and outer walls, you seriously improve your home’s ability to hold on to its heat, which means you put your heating on less and for shorter periods, and save significantly at the same time.
Benefits of home insulation in the UK
Improved energy efficiency
Reduced environmental impact
Increased comfort
Increased property value
Noise reduction
Better energy efficiency means less money spent each month on energy bills. Right now in the UK, there’s no denying that anything homeowners can do to reduce the amount of energy they use is a good thing.
When you install home insulation with Effective Home, your house will be able to maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the entire year. That’s right: insulation makes your house cooler in summer, and warmer in winter so you can enjoy your home year round!
Is insulation a smart investment for me?
Insulation is a smart investment for any UK homeowner looking to improve their home’s energy efficiency, comfort, and value.
Insulation can significantly reduce your energy bills by preventing heat loss from your home. This is particularly important during the winter months when heating costs can be high. By investing in insulation, you can save money on your energy bills, which will pay for the cost of the insulation over time.
A previously uninsulated detached property could save up to £415 annually by installing loft insulation, while cavity wall insulation installation could bring up to £455 in annual bill savings (according to Energy Saving Trust figures).
Insulation can also increase the comfort level in your home. By keeping warm air inside and preventing drafts, insulation can help maintain a consistent temperature throughout your home, reducing cold spots and making it more comfortable to live in.
Our business and its success are built on energy efficiency funding and grants.

Cavity wall & loft insulation - FAQs
Can newer homes benefit from extra insulation?
Many older properties have less insulation than modern houses built today, but even adding insulation to a newer home can pay for itself within a few years, such as topping up loft insulation.
Can all lofts be insulated?
Generally, yes. So long as the property has an accessible loft and doesn’t have moisture problems in the loft (which can cause your insulation to fail), we’ll be able to insulate it with an effective thermal barrier.
What are the benefits of having loft insulation professionally installed?
Trusting professionals to install loft insulation for you is absolutely the best choice you can make. Whilst it’s possible to install loft insulation yourself, it has to be done perfectly in order to ensure its effectiveness.
Problems with installation can lead to damp problems which vary depending on the issue created. For example, thermal bridging can lead to cold penetrating your home more easily due to improperly installed loft insulation. This then negates the point of having loft insulation in the first place.
Our professional team at Effective Home will always follow industry best practices to ensure your loft insulation is perfectly placed for a warmer home.
How is cavity wall insulation installed inside the wall?
Most cavity walls can be insulated by injecting insulation material into the cavity from the outside. Your installer will drill small 22mm drill holes at intervals in your outer walls, inject insulation through the holes using specialist equipment, and then seal them with cement.
The insulation materials are usually either mineral wool or polystyrene beads.
Once all the insulation is in, we’ll fill the holes in the brickwork so you’ll barely notice them.
How long does it take to insulate cavity walls?
Filling cavity walls is not a job you can do yourself, you will need to employ an approved installer that uses the right certified products. Effective Home can usually do the job in around two hours for an average house with easily accessible cavity walls.
It shouldn’t make any mess, and the only noticeable signs that you have had cavity wall insulation installed will be the very small evenly placed holes on the outer wall.
Can cavity wall insulation cause damp?
You may have seen rumours that cavity wall insulation can cause damp patches in your home, but this isn’t strictly true. Whilst plenty of builders argue that cavity walls should be left empty to allow the property to breathe, if you choose the right insulation material then your walls will still be able to breathe.
With a top-quality installer, you won’t need to worry about damp problems, because damp prevention will be at the forefront of their minds like it is for us at Effective Home. That way, you can keep all the heat inside your home, and all the damp out.
Of course, in order for the insulation to be effective, you’ll need to ensure that there are no issues with the construction of the walls that might allow damp bridging to occur.
But in terms of cavity insulation being the cause of any damp issues, the chances are incredibly slim.
